Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about creating, printing and scanning QR codes with QR.app.
Is QR.app really free?
Yes. Static QR codes are free to create and download, with no sign-up, watermark or scan limit.
Do static QR codes expire?
No. The content is stored inside the code itself, so it keeps working as long as the printed code exists.
What is the difference between static and dynamic QR codes?
A static code holds its content directly and cannot be changed. A dynamic code points to a QR.app short link that you can edit at any time, and it records scan statistics. Dynamic codes need a free account.
Which file format should I use?
PNG works for websites, documents and social media. SVG is best for print because it scales to any size without losing quality.
Will my QR code scan with colors and a logo?
Yes, as long as the dots are clearly darker than the background. We raise error correction automatically when you add a logo and warn you if the contrast is too low. Always test-scan before printing.
What happens to my PDF?
Your PDF is stored on our servers under a random, unguessable link, and the QR code opens it. Uploads are limited to 10 MB.
Do I need an account?
Not for static QR codes. You only need a free account for dynamic codes, which can be edited after printing and include scan statistics.
Is my data private?
QR codes are generated in your browser. The text, contacts and WiFi passwords you enter are never sent to our servers. Only PDFs are uploaded, because the code needs a link to open them.
How big should I print a QR code?
At least 2 × 2 cm (0.8 × 0.8 in) for something held in the hand. For posters and signs, divide the scanning distance by 10: a code read from 2 m away should be about 20 cm wide.
Can I change a static QR code after printing?
No. The content is part of the pattern, so a new destination means a new code. If you expect changes, use a dynamic QR code instead.
How do people scan a QR code?
On almost every iPhone and Android phone, they open the camera, point it at the code and tap the link that appears. No app is needed.
